Setting Up API Keys

Connect TextClipper to powerful cloud models like OpenAI (ChatGPT) or Google Gemini for enhanced reasoning and translation.

Important: You must use your own keys. TextClipper stores these keys locally on your Mac and communicates directly with the provider. We do not proxy or see this data.

OpenAI (GPT-4) Setup

  1. Go to the OpenAI API Keys page.
  2. Create a new secret key (e.g., "TextClipper App").
  3. Copy the key (it starts with `sk-...`).
  4. Open TextClipper Settings > AI Providers tab.
  5. Paste the key into the OpenAI field and click Verify.

Google Gemini Setup

  1. Visit Google AI Studio.
  2. Click Create API Key.
  3. Copy the generated key.
  4. In TextClipper Settings, switch to the Google Gemini section.
  5. Paste the key and save.

Usage

Once connected, you can select "Analyze with GPT-4" or "Ask Gemini" from the capture dropdown menu to send extracted text directly to the AI for processing.
